The
Heptner Cancer Center is thrilled to be the hub for a cancer resource program that strives to
reduce the impact of cancer on the residents of Wyoming through community-based
efforts. A new onsite coordinator will serve as a resource navigator for
local cancer patients, providing guidance and education.
Thanks to a two-year grant of $170,001 from the
Wyoming Cancer Resource Services Project, residents from Campbell, Crook, Johnson and Sheridan
counties have access to the cancer resource center at CCH and learn about
their specific cancer and how to navigate choices and treatments, and
gain access to cancer screenings, wigs, books, education materials, gas
cards for travel to out-of-town cancer treatments, and much more.
“We are so pleased that Campbell County Health was chosen to host
the resource coordinator. She will be a great help to our local cancer
patients and those in surrounding areas by filling the role of patient
navigator, helping patients logistically, and emotionally cope with cancer,”
said Leigh Worsley, MS, RTT, CMD, Cancer Care Director.
Kate Johnson, BSW, will soon be available to visit with patients one-on-one
at the cancer resource center. Check with the registration staff to see
when she is available for a visit. She welcomes anyone who has a concern
about cancer.
Johnson also serves as a cancer advocate and information expert on the
community and state level for the northeast region of the state.
