Did you know that April is Occupational Therapy Awareness month? In honor
of this recognition, Campbell County Health wanted to shed some light
on this profession and introduce our therapists.
Janine Albert is one of four occupational therapists who provides therapy to patients
in multiple locations. For those who don't know, occupational therapy
promotes independence and living a meaningful life whether it be through
physical rehab, creating adaptations to make functional activities easier,
or teaching new strategies to function to the best of a person’s ability.
To Janine, living life to the fullest means participating in all desired
activities even when it requires making adaptations to do so and why she
became an occupational therapist. Witnessing the impact an occupational
therapist had on the development of a child in her family was the turning
point. "The therapist was an incredible resource and support for
my parents," she says. "I also love the relationships we get
to develop with our patients."
One of Janine’s favorite things about being an occupational therapist
is the flexibility and variety of occupational therapy. “I could
be treating a broken wrist one day, finding ways to maximize independence
following a stroke the next, or working on reaching on developmental milestones
with a kid the next. It is a constant challenge, and I love it,” she says.
Janine chooses to work for CCH’s Rehabilitation Services because
they treat all diagnoses, including splinting, orthopedic conditions,
neurologic conditions, mental health difficulties, children with developmental
delays or sensory difficulties, generalized weakness, and home safety
evaluations, among others.
“I am a firm believer that almost any condition would benefit from
occupational therapy in one way or another,” says Janine.
Thank you, Janine, for being a part of the team at Occupational Therapy
at CCH Rehabilitation Services.
Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants help people
of all ages participate in the things they want and need to do through
the therapeutic use of everyday activities. Unlike other professions,
occupational therapy helps people function in all of their environments—for
example, at home, work, school and in the community—as well as addresses
the physical, psychological, and cognitive aspects of their well-being
through activities. Occupational therapy services are available to patients
at the Stocktrail Building, or in the comfort of their own home. Learn
