Protecting your feet in the cold

Jan 14, 2020

Cold winter weather does not mean that you have to stop doing the activities you love; however, it does mean you should be prepared to tackle the Wyoming winter weather ahead. When heading out on the coldest of days, it’s important to remember that proper prevention will allow for your feet to stay dry and warm, all winter long:

Always Wear the Right Shoes

By now, you probably know that your footwear should always match the event at hand — this is especially true in the winter. Your shoes should be a bit less breathable but safe enough to prevent you from slipping and falling. For cold weather activities, look for a boot that is insulated and water-resistant, too.

Keep Them Dry

You want to further protect your feet with a good pair of moisture-wicking socks. Though your shoes are made to prevent you from touching snow, ice, and water, your socks will protect you from excess sweat, which can leave your feet damp and, ultimately, cold.

But Be Smart About Layering

Though you’ll want to keep your feet dry, layering can create extra heat, making your feet sweat, and leading to unnecessary dampness, so stick with a good pair of moisture-resistant ones instead.

Pay Attention to the Signs

If you begin to lose feeling in your feet after being exposed to the cold for a long time, you put yourself at risk for damage. Be sure to pay attention to your time spent outdoors, and if your feet start to lose feeling, seek warmth as soon as possible.
