You need to feel comfortable with any doctor you see. That's especially true when the doctor is an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN). After all, this is the doctor you trust with your reproductive health—and if you become pregnant, the health of your baby. The two of you must be able to talk frankly about intimate topics.

So, how can you find an OB-GYN that is a good fit for you?

You might ask women you know and trust for their recommendations. You can also check with your health insurance plan. Many provide a list of approved providers.

Once you have a list of doctors who seem like a good match, it's a smart idea to schedule visits with them. This is your opportunity to be sure that you feel at ease with your future OB-GYN.

You'll also want to find out what hospital the doctor uses and his or her views about pregnancy, labor and delivery if you're planning on having a baby.
