Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
That's an old Christmas carol I kept thinking about last Friday (October 4, 2013) during our snow emergency here in Gillette, Wyoming.
The other thought I had as I walked around the hospital and Pioneer Manor is what great employees and medical staff we have.
We met early in the day to figure out staffing. Our managers, supervisors, and employees alike all came to the table with suggestions on how to make sure we took great care of our patients and residents. Plant Operations made sure the power stayed on and the snow was shoveled. Security arranged rides for employees who wanted to come to work, but couldn't make it out of their driveways. Nutrition Services made sure food was available and kindly offered a free meal Friday evening. Nursing did a great job of caring for patients. Pharmacy, Environmental Services, Imaging, Lab, Cardio-Pulmonary, and everyone else (too numerous to count) in the organization rose to the occasion and did all that was necessary to ensure patient and resident care continued uninterrupted.
Emergencies are something we prepare for throughout the year, and this was an occasion to put that preparation to practical use. Thankfully it was only snow and the sun melted it away on Saturday.
To all of our staff who did such a yeoman’s job, a big thank you from the CEO.
