Helping patients find options to pay for their care

Mar 17, 2014

Erin Romero is here to help.

As CCMH’s new eligibility advocate through Cardon Outreach, she’ll be helping individuals who are uninsured or underinsured find funding to help them cover the costs of their medical bills. A service that is available for free.

Since 1996, Cardon Outreach has helped people across the United States find sources that will pay for their medical bills. Cardon works with more than 500 facilities in 35 states, and CCMH has contracted with them this year to begin offering these services to self-pay patients who are cared for in our health system.

Erin’s days will be filled with helping patients:

  • understand what services are available to them that could help cover the costs of their medical bills by looking at government and charity programs
  • gather paperwork and complete applications to apply for those services
  • set up appointments with state case workers

When a patient is discharged, she’ll help screen them for Chip, Crime Victim Services, Medicaid, SSDI, SSI, and Veteran benefits, among others. She can even help patients with the Affordable Care Act until Monday, March 31, when enrollment closes. Cardon will also reach out to patients via the phone and mail to invite them to learn more about the services available to them, should they not meet with Erin upon discharge.

Erin is located in Triage 2 of the Emergency Department, on the right side of the ED admissions desk if facing the desk. And, if you have questions, you can get a hold of Erin at 307.688.1107.
