This month from the Kid Clinic: Five Tips to Managing Everyday Stress

Mar 15, 2017

Stress according to the dictionary, is defined as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances."

Stress is a normal part of life, and there are events that happen around a person, and many things that a person may do to themselves to put additional stress on their mental, emotional, and physical state. Therefore, managing everyday stress with a positive approach is important to reduce negative symptoms of stressors.

The following are five tips that could help you manage stress:

  1. Talk to someone that you are not feeling stressed with. Call a friend or family member and share with them about what is stressing you out, and how you feel.
  2. Use positive coping skills such as: take deep breaths, use meditation, and walk away from the situation instead of reacting negatively.
  3. Cope with stress in a positive manner by participating in healthy activities, which can include exercising, reading, writing, painting, sports, listening to music, going to a movie, dancing, cooking, etc.
  4. Set boundaries. Saying no is OK!
  5. Eat healthy and get a full nights rest.
