Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family
and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they
do for this organization.
Say hello to Melissa Osborne, a histotechnician (HT) with Campbell County
Memorial Hospital
Pathology. Pathology processes specimens, such as tissue from biopsies or organs
and body fluids, from the
Surgical Services department and
local doctor's offices. For those who don’t know, a histotechnician prepares very thin
samples of specimens to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist.
These specimens are then checked for abnormalities and help your doctor
diagnose and treat potential ailments. Having a Pathology department in
Gillette allows doctors to give patients a faster diagnosis, thus they
begin to feel better quicker. Melissa has an associate’s degree
in Mortuary Science, and is a Licensed Funeral Service Practitioner. She
worked as a funeral director for five years before she took a job with
CCH. She has been part of CCH for 15 years.
She was inspired to work in health care while working with
Dr. Woodward as a funeral director when she assisted with autopsies. “When a
position became available to work for him I applied. It was a very easy
career transition from embalming and helping families through one of the
toughest experiences in life to my current position in health care,”
she says. She also says Dr. Woodward is her health care hero because he
plays an integral role for all the physicians on the front lines of health
care. Melissa was head of a team that was able to create and implement
new procedures to raise the standard of care at CCH for families experiencing
premature infant loss, a part of her job she is proud to have been involved with.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys watching her daughter, Renaya dance and
her son, Riddik play multiple sports. She also enjoys spending time with
her other half, Jesse riding motorcycles, shooting archery and traveling.
We asked Melissa what she likes most about working at CCH and what excellence
every day means to her. Check out her response:
“I love working in the Lab. We are a family. We all strive to provide
excellence every day in Pathology. Excellence every day to me means, providing
outstanding quality service personally for patients by ensuring that specimens
are processed properly from the time they are biopsied until diagnoses
of the slides I make for the pathologist.”
Thank you, Melissa for helping to keep our community healthy. We appreciate you.
