Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family
and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they
do for this organization.
Allow us to introduce Heather Black, a
Medication Aide at
The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center in Gillette, Wyoming. Heather has been with CCH for nine years, but has
been in health care for 20 years. Heather began her career in healthcare
at Pioneer Manor when she was 17 years old. She left and then returned
to long term care in 2010.
For those who don’t know, a certified medication aide is a
certified nursing assistant (CNA) who has completed additional classroom training to be certified
to dispense medications to patients while working under the supervision
of a Registered Nurse. Training is usually four months, and includes 140
hours of supervised clinical practice.
Heather was inspired to work in the health care profession because of her
mother, who always worked in some sort of health field when she was growing
up. “When I was little my mom worked for a Pediatrician and I would
go visit her there. The doctor and nurses would let me help out. I always
knew that I would be in the health care field somehow one day,” she says.
When asked who her health care hero was, Heather again answered her mother,
and Dr. Schmidt, a
Pediatrician. “If it wasn’t for them when I was little, I don’t think
I would be doing this today.”
When she’s not at work, you can find Heather reading, camping, and
spending time with her family and friends.
We asked Heather what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence
every day means to her. Check out her response:
“Knowing that I can make the residents’ feel comfortable and
safe, having them know they have someone they can count on while I’m
here brings me a lot of pride. I love the bonds you make with the Residents
and their families. Even when the resident is no longer with us, I still
keep in contact with some of the families. I also have to say that the
co-workers I work with now, we make a great team and always hold each
other accountable. We strive for excellence every day, no matter the circumstances.
Excellence every day means going above and beyond with any situation you
are put in. Doing the best of your ability and always striving for better,
and at the end of the day knowing you put your all in everything you did.”
