Thanks for working here Thursday: Maddy Morgan, RN, CCMH Medical/Surgical Unit

Feb 27, 2019

Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County, Wyoming community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.

Allow us to introduce Maddy Morgan, a registered nurse (RN) who works for the Campbell County Memorial Hospital Medical/Surgical Unit in Gillette, Wyoming. Maddy earned her associate degree in nursing from Gillette College in 2016, and joined CCH right afterward. She’s currently working toward her bachelor’s degree in nursing through the University of Wyoming. For those who don’t know, Med/Surg nurses practice in a stimulating, and demanding, setting. Many will say it’s not for the faint-hearted, but the work is very rewarding. Nurses on this unit can care for patients across many age levels, with a huge variety of disease categories or injuries, and with different degrees of acuity. The must be knowledgeable about all age groups, from infants to geriatrics, which can make working on the unit a challenge because of the variety of the patients.

Maddy says she always knew she was supposed to have a career in healthcare, but wasn’t exactly sure where in the beginning. “Initially, I wanted to be an occupational therapist or a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I thought nursing would be a great place to start,” says Maddy. “Now, I have learned that I enjoy having the ability to care for others, and make people feel better. I really love learning about the human body, as well as the critical thinking that comes with complex medicine.”

Maddy says that one of her health care hero’s is Leslea King, RN, who also works on the Med/Surg Unit at CCMH. “She always inspires me to strive for excellence. She is consistently the most compassionate person that I know,” says Maddy. “She is known to celebrate her patients birthdays, orders patients their favorite Starbucks drink—in trade for walking a lap in the hall, of course—and she simply goes the extra mile with a smiling face every time she comes to work. Through working with Leslea, I have learned that no matter how busy you are, charting can always wait,” Maddy says.

When she’s not at work, you can find Maddy hiking, working out, riding her bike through the Spearfish Canyon, running Spartan races, traveling, spending time with her family and boyfriend, and eating pizza or ice cream! She also says that she will pick up a shift for fun, too—but, we think the other things she listed sound much more fun!

We asked Maddy what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:

“I am a Gillette native, and I love being able to take care of our rural community. I am honored to do this with an amazing team!

I love that I learn something new every day. The Med/Surg floor has provided me opportunities to gain insight about healthcare and broaden my horizon, and I am so thankful that I started in this department right after college! I get the privilege to take care of pediatric patients, hospice patients, surgical patients, geriatric patients, and literally everything in between!

Excellence every day means always trying your best, being dedicated, and striving to make Campbell County Health the No. 1 choice in Wyoming.”

Thank you, Maddy, for putting our patients’ needs first. We are proud to have you on our team.
