Misty Robertson is always looking to learn something when she moves to
a new area. Campbell County Health’s new Chief Nursing Officer learned
how to bake last year from a Mennonite community near her previous CNO
position in Sand Point, Idaho.
Looking for a challenge is a common theme in Misty’s professional
life, too. She began her career as a staff nurse in a hospital
Medical/Surgical unit and
Emergency Department.
“They made me be a charge nurse,” said Misty.
Misty moved into nursing leadership for the chance to impact patient’s
lives on a broader scale than she could in direct patient care. She was
attracted to CCH because of the continuum of care from
EMS to
long-term care.
“That’s unusual, especially for a smaller community,”
said Misty.
Misty’s goal for the short term is to get to know the people and
processes in the organization. She’s impressed with what she’s
seen already sees opportunities for incremental changes to help move CCH
toward becoming exceptional, from a four to a five.
When she’s not working at CCH, Misty is getting used to her new home,
located on 40 acres east of Gillette, Wyoming. She loves animals, and
hopes to bring her chickens to Gillette soon to join her ‘pound
puppy’, a terrier named Outlaw Jonny Ringo. She admits to spending
most of her time doing homework, as she is in the midst of a doctoral
program from
Boise State University. She’ll earn her Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2021.
“This is a new clinical doctorate program that applies research to
clinical nursing practice,” says Misty. “I want to help advance
the nursing profession to a seat at the healthcare leadership table.”
