Meet Devyn Brinkerhoff-Olson, RN, who works for
Oncology at the CCH
Heptner Cancer Center in Gillette, Wyoming. Devyn began her healthcare career at
Campbell County Memorial Hospital as a
CNA on the
Medical/Surgical Unit in 2016. She earned her Associates Degree in Health Science and Nursing from
Gillette College, and has been working as a registered nurse since
June 2019. Devyn also received the
Wyoming Nurses Association District 10 Rising Star Award in May 2019.
In 2014,
Devyn was in a traumatic car accident. “My life very quickly changed.
I have had so many caregivers who played a huge role in saving my life
and helped me get to where I am today,” she says. “Through
that experience, grew an interest in the healthcare field. I wanted to
be able to pass on the care and compassion I received to my patients and
be able to make a difference in their lives and make an impact.”
Devyn doesn’t have one health care hero to name, but instead says
this: “I have met so many healthcare workers in my personal life
and through school and work that have impacted my life in many ways. Every
healthcare worker who has cared for me or who I have had the opportunity
to work with and learn from has played a role in my career today and who
I am as a nurse.”
Outside of work, Devyn says that she enjoys spending time with her family,
going camping and boating, as well as reading a good book and relaxing
by the fireplace.
We asked Devyn what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence
every day means to her. Check out her answer:
“I am extremely honored to work with some of the most supportive,
compassionate, and dedicated health care workers. Each person at CCH plays
such an important role in caring for patients and their families, and
I am blessed to be part of such an incredible team that comes together
to support each other and our community.
There are so many things that I love about my job. The connections and
relationships that I am able to make with my patients and their families
are indescribable. I enjoy being able to really take the time to talk
with my patients and get to know them. I feel honored that my patients
allow me and trust me to care for them and walk beside them on their journey.
I am grateful that I am a part of such an incredible department that is
so supportive and has amazing teamwork. The entire oncology staff has
really helped me through the transition of becoming a new nurse, and I
am blessed to be a part of the team and that I am able to work alongside
all of them.
Excellence every day means to me that I am providing safe, competent and
compassionate care that I would like myself or my family to receive. It
means coming to work every day putting my heart into my job and making
sure my patients are well cared for… that I am a voice for my patients,
and I am a support system who is also able to cheer with them during their
successes, and empathize with them in their setbacks. It also means that
I show up to work every day being a dedicated team player and being supportive
of my co-workers and being someone they can rely on.”
