New physician assistant Crystal Skovly likes to keep busy. That's a good thing because she just joined
Powder River Orthopedics and Spine (PROS) as the only PA in a practice with three orthopedic surgeons and a podiatrist. Crystal comes to CCH and PROS from Yankton, South Dakota, but she was already familiar with Wyoming because she lived in Bozeman, MT and attended
Montana State University.
"We did a lot of driving through Wyoming from Yankton to Bozeman," said Crystal. "I wanted to get back closer to the mountains."
Crystal has lots of experience in healthcare; she worked at a nursing home from grade school through undergraduate school and attended a Physician Assistant program at Idaho State University in Pocatello. An athlete in both high school and college, Crystal's interest in orthopedics was a natural fit.
"I think I understand the patient's side of things too," said Crystal. "And I like the problem solving aspect—what we need to do to understand what's going on and how to help them get results."
Crystal will be seeing orthopedic patients for their initial appointments, some post-op re-checks and eventually rounding on patients in the hospital.
She and her husband have a seven-year old son and a ten-month old daughter. Husband Jason is a diesel performance specialist. They both enjoy hunting and hiking and look forward to the outdoor opportunities nearby with their family.
"Everyone has had good things to say about PROS," said Crystal. "They share my philosophy that educating the patient is critical to a good outcome."
