This month’s Department Discovery spotlights the Campbell County Medical Group Central Billing Office, or what we refer to as the CBO.
There are 18 employees at the CBO, says Karre Fisk, Manager, “with a combined 259.5 years of experience in the health care field.” On top of that, three team members have independently sought certification from American Academy of Professional Coders to be Certified Professional Billers.
The CBO team has worked hard to overcome the challenges associated with the rapidly growing Campbell County Medical Group. The department started with a staff of just four team members in 2009 and billing for two clinics, and now has 18 employees and processes billing for 31 providers in 18 locations for the Medical Group. “In the last year, the CBO has billed out $27,941,875 in charges, posted 263,220 payments, taken 15,240 billing-related phone calls, and made 57,510 collection calls,” says Karre.
One project the CBO team is excited to be working on this year is ICD-10 implementation—a new system of medical diagnosis reporting for billing and other documentation that goes into effect on October 1. This federally required implementation is a huge undertaking; the previous ICD-9 system had about 13,000 diagnosis codes for physicians to choose from and ICD-10 has about 68,000.
“It has been an honor to work with a great group of staff to strive to be excellent, every day,” says Karre. “They truly appreciate the opportunity to work with the exceptional providers that have come to take care of our community.”
A big round of applause to the CCMG Central Billing Office staff! Thank you for all that you do for our community.
