Surgical Services Nurses complete PeriOp 101 training

Four nurses in Surgical Services have completed their Periop 101 training—Misty Alexander, RN II; Sara Higgs, RN II; Jordan Stauffacher, RN II; and Heather Wofford, RN II. Misty has been with CCH since August 2013; Sara since August 2015; Jordan since September 2015; and Heather since June 2012.

The nurses completed 25 online modules as a part of their orientation to the Operating Room and Outpatient surgical services, and say for a final exam consisting of 113 questions. The program was developed by expert surgical nurse-authors and is based on the latest, evidence-based Guidelines for Perioperative Practice. It's used by more than 1,500 hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers nationwide to recruit, educate, and retain operating room nurses, and is said to help reduce turnover by as much as 25 percent.

Periop 101 is developed by the Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). AORN is a non-profit membership association based in Denver, Colo., that represents the interests of more than 160,000 perioperative nurses by providing nursing education, standards, and clinical practice resources to enable optimal outcomes for patients undergoing operative and other invasive procedures.

Congratulations to Misty, Sara, Jordan and Heather! We're proud to have you on our team.
