The CCH
Board of Trustees gave the go-ahead for the
inpatient room redesign project by a 4-2 vote on June 28, 2018. The project will construct 33
new patient rooms in the space above the Campbell County Memorial Hospital
(CCMH) Main Lobby for the
Maternal Child,
Medical/Surgical and
Intensive Care Units in Gillette, Wyoming.
Construction will begin on two “mock-up” rooms July 9. One
Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum (LDRP) room and one Postpartum room
will be constructed in their finished locations on the second floor shell,
scheduled to be completed by August 31. Staff will be able to test the
rooms thoroughly for equipment placement, design and patient and staff
flow so any changes can be made prior to construction of the other rooms.
The Maternal Child area is scheduled to begin in August and be completed
in May 2019. The entire project is scheduled for completion in February 2020.
The project was recently downsized from the initial design of 42 beds.
Data collected from July 2016-July 2017 showed only seven days when the
census exceeded 33 beds, so patients could be accommodated in the 33 new
rooms 99% of the time without being diverted to other healthcare facilities.
Seven remaining rooms in what is now Two South would still be available
for overflow if needed.
According to CCH
Facilities Vice President Steve Crichton, 72% of the construction bids are from local
contractors who are eager to begin work on the project.
The Board’s motion to approve the project consisted of a cost of
$21,672,868, with a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GNP) to
Scull Construction of $15,586,656. The total project cost is $23,921,758, which includes
$2,248,890 approved in 2017. The motion was approved by a 4-2 vote, with
Ronda Boller and Adrian Gerrits voting no.
