Meet Brian Murphy, a
volunteer
Abider at Campbell County Health in Gillette, Wyoming.
Inspired by his father, Brian began volunteering in 2016.
“My father performed in nursing homes in the surrounding region,”
said Brian. “At 90-years old, he was helping those who were younger
than him!”
Brian is a member of the Abider program. This program ensures no one dies
alone by providing trained, nonclinical volunteers who offer a comforting
presence to those who are actively dying and may not have support. “Unfortunately,
it happens more often than you would think,” said Brian.
“Brian’s kindness, expertise and love for our community shine
through his work as an Abider Captain,” said
Donny Edwards, Chaplain Services Coordinator for CCH.
When volunteering, he spends most of his time at
The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center, working closely with residents in their final days. He finds his volunteer
work very gratifying and enjoys the camaraderie of the Abider program.
“I believe this is a high calling,” said Brian. “We
share a bond.”
“I appreciate the energy and joy he brings to the team and I am blessed
to call him my friend,” said Donny.
Outside of the volunteering, Brian works as a recruiter for the
Campbell County Fire Department. He is tasked with hiring part-time firefighters for the County. Additionally,
he continues to work on a crew and will assist on calls if needed.
Brian is an active member in his church; he is a member of the Parish Council,
assists with the sound board and lends his carpentry skills when needed.
In his spare time, Brian enjoys the outdoors. He likes to fish, go four-wheeling
and garden, among other activities.
“He is truly one of the hidden gems of our community and it is an
honor to work alongside of him to serve our community,” said Donny.
Brian embodies the spirit of volunteerism; giving his time for the opportunity
to help others. CCH is able to offer the Abider program because of volunteers
like Brian. Thank you, Brian, for providing an additional level of comfort
and support to our patients and residents.
