You can tell that the end of summer is fast approaching, with back to school ads and the relief on the faces of many parents.
But there’s one sign of summer that we’re sorry to see, CCH's summer junior volunteer program ending. Some 32 kids between the ages of 13-18 have given almost 1,000 hours of their time to volunteer all over the organization. They spent time in
Childcare,
Nutrition,
Pioneer Manor and many other departments, getting some real life experience in dealing with customers, and maybe nudging them toward a future career in healthcare.
Some of our favorite programs were the weekly Coffee2Go coffee delivery service and popcorn sales. The juniors earned more than $80 in tips from delivering coffee in the hospital, and raised nearly $800 from popcorn sales. I’m told they plan on using some of this money to purchase food for the Council of Community Services over the holidays. It’s great to see them paying it forward and I’m proud that they have learned the value of helping others in their community.
Thank you to all the junior volunteers for another great year at CCH!
