The
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released their first
HCAHPS Star Rating for hospitals in July for the period October 1, 2014-September 30, 2015.
The Star ratings were developed to provide consumers an easy way to compare
hospitals and spotlight excellence in healthcare quality. Campbell County
Memorial Hospital (CCMH) achieved 4 stars out of 5 for inpatient experience.
Overall, CCMH received a 3-star ranking, which reflects quality of care
and patient experience together.
Campbell County Health attributes the improvement in patient experience
to the work that our dedicated employees have done to hardwire the
Standards of Behavior, and Excellence Every Day. Every employee and doctor has worked diligently
to drive toward Excellence Every Day by utilizing various initiatives
such as AIDET. AIDET stands for acknowledge, introduce, duration, explanation,
and thanks (or, saying thank you). This means that for every patient encounter
it is the expectation that employees acknowledge themselves to the patient,
introduce themselves to the patient, talk about the duration of the procedure
or encounter, explain what will occur or what is happening and thank the
patient for trusting us for their care.
“Patients who come to CCH are usually at their most vulnerable. When
we take the time to help the patient be more at ease by using AIDET, as
well as other initiatives, it results in a much better patient experience;
and clearly positive outcomes. I am so excited about our progress toward
Excellence in patient experience and to see that we have achieved the
4 star rating.” according Mary Barks, Director of Patient and Resident
Experience.
