Our physicians are experts... and great people too!
Meet
Angela Biggs, MD, the June 2017 Provider of the Month. Dr. Biggs joined the medical staff
in 2005 and is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She now practices at
Summit OB/GYN in Gillette, Wyoming. A native of Worland, Wyoming, Dr. Biggs attended
Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha and completed a residency at
Michigan State Medical Education and Research Center in Grand Rapids. For Dr. Biggs, obstetrics and gynecology provides a terrific
balance of her favorite parts of medicine, building long term relationships
with patients while still having the opportunity to provide surgical solutions.
She also says she loves birthday parties!
Dr. Biggs credits her mother for starting her on the path to a career in
medicine. During middle school, a class project was to research possible
career choices. Her mother suggested she become an OB GYN. Dr. Biggs didn’t
even know what that was, but when her mom explained it was ‘a doctor
for women’, it sparked her interest – especially since her
mom had to travel three hours just to obtain OB GYN services. In medical
school, she kept an open mind on all of her rotations and considered several
specialties, including family medicine and cardiology, but on her OB GYN
rotation she felt her true calling.
Dr. Biggs says she is a Wyoming girl at heart, and never thought about
living anywhere else. She met her husband, Dr. Rodney Biggs, at the
University of Wyoming. They completed their medical education and training together. They chose
to return to Wyoming and Gillette specifically because of the people.
She believes Gillette was and continues to be the most welcoming community
of any town in Wyoming, and it was an easy choice to come here to practice.
She can’t imagine living anywhere else.
Giving back is also important to Dr. Biggs. She has served on numerous
medical staff committees, and currently serves on the faculty of the University
of Washington for the
WWAMI clerkship program. She is the medical director of the
Women’s Resource Center for crisis pregnancies. She believes in making the effort to create solutions
if you can.
She and her family have been a part of this community for 12 years and
have established roots. The Biggs’ have four children, Zoe, 17;
Sophia, 13; Michael, 11 and John, 6. All the kids are involved in community
activities ranging from the arts to sports. She and the family love to
go to the mountains to fish, hike, 4-wheel and snowmobile.
Thank you, Dr. Biggs, for providing our patients with excellent care.
