Dr. Ted Lawson consults on video with Dr. David Wheeler, of
Wyoming Medical Center’s Primary Stroke Center during a recent
Telestroke practice drill in the
Campbell County Memorial Hospital Emergency Department (ED). The drill simulated a patient coming to the Emergency Department with
symptoms of a
stroke.
Telestroke allows ED physicians to connect with neurologists using a robotic
device as soon as the patient can get to the hospital in Gillette, Wyoming. The
neurologist, located in Casper, Wyoming, can see and talk to the patient and ED providers,
working together to assess the patient.
Studies show that treatment times decrease and treatment choices improve
when a neurologist is involved early in the care of a patient experiencing a stroke.
