Volunteers enhance the care provided to patients at Campbell County Health
in many different ways. This new feature will highlight one of our CCH
volunteers and the important contributions they make to the organization
and the community.
Amanda Haggard came to Gillette a little over a year ago from Texas. She
had an interest in healthcare, especially nursing, and her husband suggested
she check out volunteering at the hospital. After visiting with then volunteer
coordinator Michele Ridgeway about her interests, Amanda was placed with
Pre-Anesthesia Testing (PAT) Coordinator Donna Torres. Donna’s job
involves a lot of time out of her office, picking up and delivering information
for surgical patients. Amanda now helps with those tasks, putting packets
together, delivering information to Patient Access and Surgery and checking
in with patients who are waiting to see the PAT nurse.
Amanda’s contributions became even more important when Donna’s
husband Bryan was experiencing significant health issues, culminating
his receiving in a liver transplant earlier this year. According to Donna,
Amanda was invaluable in helping keep the PAT office running smoothly
while she was out of the office caring for her husband. Donna says that
having Amanda’s help is a huge timesaver because she is so self-motivated
and knows the routine so well.
Amanda volunteers three to four days a week and works at a small table
in the PAT office when she’s not running around picking up and delivering
documents. She really enjoys meeting people and learning about the different
roles available in healthcare. Amanda and her husband have four daughters—ages
19, 15, 13 and 11—so she certainly has no shortage of chores at home.
Amanda embodies the spirit of volunteerism—giving her time for the
opportunity to help others. Thank you Amanda, for all that you do for
CCH and this community. If you're interested in learning more about
