National Healthcare Volunteer Week 2017

April 23-29 is National Healthcare Volunteer Week! For those who don’t know, President Richard Nixon established this week in 1974 as a way to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers and foster a culture of service.

At Campbell County Health, there are more than 340 adult and youth volunteers. From April 2016 to March 2017, adult and junior volunteers gave more than 13,000 hours of their valuable time to help patients, residents and employees.

Check out what some of our volunteers do to help:

1. Mary Ann Stuckey helps the organization by putting together materials to give to patients as well as spending time visiting with residents at The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center. She will also help out at the United Blood Service blood drives that are held at Campbell County Memorial Hospital.
2. You can find Mary Ann Bourne sitting at the CCMH information desk helping to direct patients and visitors to where they need to go. Mary Ann also helps out at the new Country Store at The Legacy.
3. Barb Roosa and Kim Shank-Zehner spend numerous hours at The Legacy. There they help the Resident Activities Department staff bring residents to activities, including bingo, arts and crafts, holiday celebrations, dances and much more.
4. Kathi Brazee and Laurie Schilling spend time volunteering in Hospice. For those who don’t know, hospice volunteers provide administrative support for staff and assist families during their most difficult days.
5. Lisa Mahylis spends hours each week helping out at the Gift Shoppe at CCMH as well as sitting at the CCMH Information Desk, helping to direct patients and visitors to where they need to go.
6. Rich Townsend volunteers multiple times a week and helps the Community Relations department with a variety of administrative duties such as cutting postcards, mailings and tracking news articles.
7. Our chaplains provide spiritual support and care to patients, residents, families, and staff throughout the organization, and are trained to support people of all spirituality—even to those who may have no spirituality.
8. Frank Sanders is a very talented musician, and often visits the CCMH and The Legacy lobbies to play the grand piano that were donated by the Kate Weis Trust.

CCH volunteers enhance the care we provide for our patients and residents in many ways. Whether they give their time for special projects during the year or volunteer several times per week, we truly appreciate their contributions to their community. There are many volunteer opportunities available, such as clerical support, administrative assistance, pastoral care/chaplains, childcare, hospital Gift Shoppe sales, The Legacy Country Store sales, hospice, Information Desk/Welcome Desk, music in the lobby, and the summer Junior Volunteer Program.
