Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family
and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they
do for this organization.
Allow us to introduce Roxanna (Rocky) Reno, RN, who works in the
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at
Campbell County Memorial Hospital. She’s been with CCH for nearly 11 years total, but has worked in
healthcare for nearly 30 years. “It's hard to believe that I
have been a nurse now for 21 years and I really cannot see myself doing
anything else,” she says.
Rocky starting working in health care when she was just 15 years old. “I
started training to be a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at age 15 with my mother's permission, two days after I turned 16
I took my certification test. I feel this is what set me on the road to
becoming a nurse,” she says. While she was in nursing school, she
worked as a CNA and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Rocky later graduated from
Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, with an associate’s degree. She’s also an
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support
(PALS) instructor.
Rocky calls her mother her health care hero. “My mother worked 40
years as a CNA and 28 years as an EMT. She was the CNA trainer when I
started working in the nursing home of our hometown,” says Rocky.
“She had high standards and expectations, and it seemed whoever
she trained did not want to let her down. Her compassion for the elderly
patients she cared for in the nursing home and the willingness to help
out wherever needed made me want to try to live up to her standards.”
Outside of work Rocky’s two son's keep her hopping. “We
play all year long. In the summer it's swimming, hiking, fishing,
riding horses and dirt bikes along with exploring our great state and
spending time with family creating memories. In the winter we enjoy skiing,
sledding and the occasional snowball fight. Life is too short to just
sit and watch it pass by, we love adventure,” she says.
We asked Rocky what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence
every day means to her. Check out her response:
“I have worked in multiple hospitals and I have to say that CCMH
really works hard to provide the very best care it can for the community
and surrounding areas. I love the diversity in the patients that we see
in the ICU, some of the challenges that we face, and the fact that I learn
something every day. My co-workers are amazing. They make it worth coming
to work with their incredible teamwork and their great sense of humor—it
can make a difficult shift better.
Excellence Every Day means that I’m providing the best care I can
for my patients and their families, with a positive attitude.”
Rocky, thank you treating our patients with compassion and providing excellence
every day to them and their families. You’re a shining example of
excellence. We appreciate you!
